Software
All three are Windows desktop applications, which is exactly why this page is Windows only: you install them over remote desktop and leave them running after you disconnect.
The broadcasting standard, and it is free
OBS Studio composes scenes, sources and overlays and pushes the result to any RTMP destination, which is every major platform. On a server it is usually driven once over RDP, then left alone — the session keeps running after you close the remote desktop window.
Software encoding is CPU-bound: VPS Plus, at 4 vCPU and 8 GB, is the realistic floor for a stable 1080p stream.
OBS with the presentation layer built in
Streamlabs Desktop is built on the same engine and adds themes, alerts and widgets without any assembly. It costs more memory than plain OBS in exchange for setup time you do not spend.
Add headroom over a bare OBS install: VPS Max, at 6 vCPU and 16 GB, leaves the encoder room to breathe.
The source when the stream is a playlist
VLC reads almost any container or codec and can loop a playlist indefinitely, which is what a continuous channel actually is. Captured as a source in OBS, it turns a folder of files into a schedule that runs without supervision.
Plan the disk around your media rather than the software: from 50 GB on VPS Plus to 120 GB on VPS Ultimate.
Streaming is one of the few workloads that saturates the upload path and the CPU at the same time. These four points decide whether the output holds a steady bitrate.
Software encoding in x264 is the most CPU-hungry part of the chain, and it is what drops frames when it runs short. Four cores is the realistic starting point for 1080p, and six leaves room for a second scene or a browser source.
A domestic connection uploads a fraction of what it downloads, which is the wrong way round for a stream. The 10 Gbps port here is symmetric, and the monthly allowance runs from 30 TB to 120 TB depending on the plan.
OBS, Streamlabs and VLC are graphical applications; they need a session, not a shell. Every plan on this page ships Windows Server with remote desktop enabled, so you set the encoder up exactly as you would locally.
Closing the remote desktop window does not end the session, and your own computer can be shut down without touching the stream. Anti-DDoS protection is included on every plan, because a published endpoint is a targeted one.
Streaming from a personal computer ties three things together that have no reason to be tied: the machine you work on, the connection your household shares, and the broadcast that is supposed to run without interruption. A Windows server over RDP separates them. The encoder runs on hardware doing nothing else, on a symmetric 10 Gbps port, and your own computer becomes a remote control you can turn off.
The workflow is unremarkable, which is the appeal. You connect over remote desktop, install OBS or Streamlabs as you would on any Windows machine, configure scenes and stream keys, start the broadcast, then disconnect. The session keeps running. You come back only to change something, and a phone with an RDP client is enough for that.
Network transparency
Ping, MTR and traceroute run live on our network, over IPv4 and IPv6. Measure the route from your own connection - before you pay.
Same machines, same locations, same control panel — only the software you install on top changes. If your project sits between two of these pages, any of the plans above will run it.
Encoding, bitrate, licensing and what happens when you disconnect.
No. Closing the RDP window disconnects your view of the session, it does not end it — the applications keep running on the server. That is the whole point of streaming from a server rather than from your own machine.
